Introducing Billy and Kenny from Mooka Oysters! Based in the small and relaxed seaside town of Smoky Bay, the Bascomb’s grow oysters with their team.
Kenny actually started off as an abalone diver by trade, however when he gave it up, he missed the ocean too much, which is why he started oyster farming in 2001. He refers to oyster farming as “an old man’s version of fishing – not as deep or as rough, but still working in a really beautiful environment”.
Kenny started off with the mindset that if everything went bad, he could just eat them all! This positive attitude has paid off, as he is now growing so many, that it would just be impossible to eat them all.
So what does it take to make an oyster farm a success? Kenny believes that a recipe of the best equipment, long-term experienced workers and great water is the key! This recipe has helped him produce a really special oyster.
Kenny and Billy take pride in the oysters they grow and enjoy competing in oyster competitions. They continuously strive to identify better ways to produce great oysters which is why they are a great asset to the Signature Oysters team.
